If a company knows that normal use of its product would make a user ill,
it should be held liable. This is plain old common law.

If the producer knew the product was harmful, yes.

Don't follow you. Only governments can destroy everything. Free markets 
have created the highest standard of living ever known, thanks to 
permitting and encouraging responses to DQ -- the evolutionary force.
