Rebecca: Fortunately when B.C. flirted with a semi-confiscatory socialism in the 70's-80's, it didn't last long. But it was amazing the Billions of dollars of Canadian money that fled to Denver and other growning American cities. Canadian companies became the biggest property owners in some of the downtown areas back then, overnight.
We benefited down here and only the impending Hong-Kong handover was able to refill B.C.'s pool of capital to finally make up the sag that was caused by abusing business. It is a monetary law(?) that money goes where it is well treated--good return. Not to get into a socialism versus capitalism debate, but in either system, EITHER system, people still have an expectation of a sense of fairness, and in a democratic system the response is legislation or flight. As long as either system wobles around what's fair, grumbling is just background noise, but at the point of abuse, there is a narrow window for correction or money leaves. Not the same as collecting unemployment, but then it's not really a handout here, your employer paid for the insurance that covers the payout. thanks--mel ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rebecca Temmer" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2009 4:50 PM Subject: Re: [MD] socialism > Well Woods, it hasn't lead down that path yet in my country and I would > force it to the end with anyone who would try to take it away from us. > > With the freedom comes responsibility. > What does liberty mean to you? > > ~R > Moq_Discuss mailing list > Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. > http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org > Archives: > http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ > http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/ Moq_Discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
