Marsha Science is not an independent entity. Who does science for its own sake these days? Are you a gentlemen scientist? I don't think so. The underpinnings of science are corporate, economic, and political, all driven by the profit margin. Of course you might add hubris to the list of supports.
[Krimel] Science has suffered tragically for the past eight years under an administration whose central theme seems to have been, "we were told there would be no math..." Pure research has typically been funded by the federal government at the university level. That it has not been adequately funded, is a serious problem that the new administration seems committed to correcting. (It is soooooo refreshing to have smart people in charge for a change.) But again the problems are political not scientific. Of course science is not independent but the problems that you bitch about are not scientific, they are, as I keep trying to tell you, political, economic and philosophical. Try to keep up, will you?
