p.s. You should hear JC rail against women being
allowed into the Princeton Club. Pathetic!

Marsha clarified on Joseph Campbell:
...It is his misogynist point-of-view that is
unforgivable. ...Campbell also, imo, takes a
living breathing Mythos and objectifies
it. Each statement is presented as true fact
without a shred of humility or respect for the
relativity of the subject. Joe is cute,
though, and I wanted to slap him silly only in a playful kind of way.
dmb says:
Sister, I just don't get that. You probably
know that he taught at a woman's college for
most of his life. And you probably know that he
was in the business of interpreting mythology,
which has been inherently misogynistic since
1750 B.C.. In fact, by the time the epic of
Gilgamesh was put into writing (the oldest myth
we have on record) the rule of women was
already over. It's a rip-off of the myth of
Innana. Also, there are no "true facts" in
myth. They're not factual at all and Joe would
be the first to point that out. In fact, the
hero's journey is all about realizing the
limits of the differentiations of consciousness.
If you want to know what arrogance and misogyny
REALLY looks like you should take a look at
Plato. In that case, I'll hold him down while you do the slapping.
Hello David,
I went through all ten VHS tapes, and he really
spoke as if he were stating the facts. Maybe
Campbell considered himself a scientist speaking
the the facts that have been discovered. This
means this.(period) This means that.
(period) Only a few times did he say something
like "It is thought that" or "Current
interpretation is that". See what I'm getting
at. Man has a thought and thinks it's a fact.
Plato thought women should be educated to the
same degree as men, but there are plenty of
other reasons to give Plato a swift kick in the
shins, for choosing "the True" over "the good"
for example. Oh, don't tell me, was Plato into having boyfriends...
I'm am very aware of Innana's journey into the
Underworld, it's my favorite story. In fact, I
participated in a ritual version.
Isis, Astarte, Diana,
Hecate, Demeter,
Kali-
Inanna!
