A third thought...

There is also the differentiation between intellectual patterns and intelligence. Intellectual patterns are supposed to be divorced from value, while I define intelligence as having everything to do with value. Intelligence is not a collection of intellectual patterns but a process of thinking directly based on value. In fact RMP at the end of LILA advises that it would be using intelligence to kill all intellectual patterns and go for Dynamic Quality. So Ron's shaman may have great innate, insightful intelligence and not possess one single intellectual pattern. Intellectual patterns are just an evolutionary movement, that does not mean they are not a maladaptation, or as Krishnamurti might say 'mankind taking a wrong turn'.

Sorry, another second thought...

I see the Intellectual level as containing patterns having the full recognition of the subject/object split, and defining the subjective portion a hindrance to discovering the absolute Truth of Reality, a point-of-view that is built into the patterns. Using various mechanisms, intellectual patterns attempt to diminish the subject portion leaving the objective free from subjective value. How crazy is that!!!!

An understanding that both subject and object are mutually created and interconnected based on _value_ just is a whole better point-of-view. This is my interpretation and humble opinion.

Hello Bo,

I didn't give in to Ron. As presented, he has an opinion without a basis, but states he is working on an argument with some kind of evidence. He seems to be stating that som is a intellectual pattern. I am suggesting that all intellectual patterns are subject/object in nature. But I haven't endorsed your SOL theory either, I merely stated that the Intellectual Level contain patterns of the s/o variety. The Metaphysics of Quality still seems to be an intellectual pattern, and I still do not want to see a meta-level that in any way contains, constrains or defines Dynamic Quality.

I may use this to some more comments. (PS, wish you hadn't given so
easily in to Ron regarding your second thoughts on the SOL)
