As you can see there is still some difference between our
interpretation of the MOQ. I do agree with you, though, that the
patterns in the Intellectual level are the product of som. The
justification below still seems unnecessary, but when you have the
time for a lengthier return, maybe we can explore further.

MOQers.
A short visit.
I have just received Anthony McWatt's "On the Road with Robert
Pirsig" DVD. As a documentary about "Zen and the Art ..." the film is
good, but in it RMP maintains the flaw that mars orthodox MOQ when
he refers to Phaedrus in a level context and says it was a social vs
intellectual struggle case, i.e. bigoted Mid-West US as "society"
against Phaedrus as "intellect". This is clearly wrong, it was
INTELLECT VERSUS THE BUDDING MOQ , i.e. the intellect-steeped
Western Culture that tried to keep Phaedrus within its premises and
when he didn't heed the warnings it's immune apparatus struck him
down.
The mystery is why Pirsig maintains this flaw. If the goal is to avoid the
SOL the cost begins to wear the MOQ thin, not many aspects of it is
now "legal". And it shows, no one applies it on anything and that's
because it is removed from its original goal and devoured by intellect -
by academy. For instance the "immune system" analogy has to be
skipped because the way he describes it it's clear that intellect and
SOM are identical. SOM is not a pattern that has corrupted intellect,
but its very "stem cell"

"Old conventions" is SOM and inside SOM - or the intellectual level -
the great offense is not being objective - .f.ex. not realizing that you
are ill if hearing voices - and intellect's means to maintain objective
discipline - its immune system - is psychiatry. For God's sake all this
psycho stuff is supposed to be SCIENCE and by default objective. It's
obvious and in LILA he maintains this view.

See, he regards "cops" (law enforcement) as the social (level's)
immune-system while psychiatry is intellect's ditto. And "degenerate
forms of intellect" is when objectivity is violated

intellect you don't start with psychiatrists. If you don't like our
present social system or intellectual system the best thing you
can do with either cops or psychiatrists is stay out of their way.
You leave them till last. Who do you start with then? . . .

See, he realized that any head-on attack on intellect - on SOM - would
be futile so LILA's opening move had to be "camouflaged", but I'm
afraid that even the anthropologic approach fails to make any dent in
intellect's armor and the reason is that Pirsig's own intellectual
component) identified his own original (intellect=SOM) interpretation
as dangerous and de-fused it by making the MOQ just another
intellectual pattern. As said a thousand times: Intellect is a MOQ
pattern, not the other way round.
