[Ham] However, unike Miss California, who was disqualified for making a politically incorrect statement, the Dixie Chicks went on to win thirteen Grammy Awards, including the Grammy for Album of the Year.
[Arlo] The Chicks received death threats, there were protests outside their concerts, enough for many would-be concert goers to refrain from going for fear of violence. What you are doing is justifying PC against them because your sense of "patriotism" was offended by their speech. As such you are not really against "PC" at all, only when it is used against speech you agree with. [Ham] Because music for me is an art form for music lovers, not a "message forum" for political activists... [Arlo] I assume then you also find complaint with the music singers who play at the "Freedom Rallys" of Sean Hannity? [Ham] I suppose one might consider attacks on perpetuators of treason an example of "political correctness", although for most loyal Americans they are simply an expression of our patriotism. [Arlo] Perpetrators of treason? You can claim this when you have a court verdict so. In the meantime, all you are doing is defining "treason" as anyone who disagrees what YOUR definition of "patriotism". [Ham] Since we are at war with independent bands of terrorists rather than a sovereign nation, War on Terror precisely defines our global involvement. [Arlo] No it does not. Perhaps "War against Al Qaeda" would be accurate. "War on Terror" is manipulative Newspeak. [Ham] Do you think use of the State Department's new "preferred" term "Overseas Contingency Operation" mitigates the threat or the violence in this engagement? [Arlo] We are at war, no doubt, and so "overseas contingency operations" is an example Newspeak, yes. If we are at "war", we are at war. That seems to make sense to me, at least. [Ham] I'm simply raising the point that changing the name of a policy or strategy midstream suggests that the traditional name (Oldspeak) carried an undesirable meaning or value. When issued by the State as a social edict, it amounts to a form of thought control. [Arlo] And I'm simply raising the point that until you see that both parties share equal guilt, you are actually furthering the very thing you are, supposedly, arguing against. [Ham] You are the one playing the partisan game here, Arlo. [Arlo] Every single one of your examples aligns with right-wing ideology. How is that me playing the partisan game? By pointing that out? For asking you to apply the same critical light to your own political ilk?
