you start this inflammatory bullshit Platt, then cry when you
get responses in opposition.

every god damn time

give it a break

[Krimel]
Exactly. Rather than look at how systems work and the relationships within
and between systems, it is easier to slap a label on something and call it
evil.

Platt's point is, as usual, too dull to bother with but here is something I
read recently that you might appreciate. It comes from the book "1491" which
I think you especially owe it to yourself to read. The author was talking
about the Aztecs and their practice of human sacrifice. While Europeans took
the moral high ground against these admittedly barbaric practices; they were
no less engaged in similarly barbaric public executions. Thousand were
dispatched to the great by and by in front of crowds of people who jockeyed
for position and often paid for the really good seats. Corpses were left
hanging and the dismembered heads of the departed where often placed on
spikes and left of display. Particularly at the time of European contact the
departed were often convicted of things like witchcraft or heresy or they
were Jews. But the Jews don't really count because nearly every culture in
the world has had a hunting season on them at one time or another.
Devilishly hard to extinguish, those Jews...

If you really think about Platt's frequent crying of wolf about millions
killed, you will see him using a kind of twisted pragmatic theory of truth
that is measured in body counts. It is as though the true measure of Quality
is the number left dead. The fact that we are morally superior to him is the
result of his refusal to count dead coal miners, slaves, Chinese railroad
workers or cancer victims who died just from living too close to polluting
temples of capitalism. Me, I think we should call evil, evil and try to end
it regardless of what name it calls itself.
