Craig said:Progressive means left-wing, ultraliberal, fashionable, socialist, hippie and the like.
dmb says:Okay, that's not bad. Not exactly a bulls eye, but it's not crazy either. My Thesaurus says progressive views are "Modern, liberal, advanced, forward-thinking, enterprising, innovative, pioneering, dynamic, bold, avant-garde, reforming, reformist, radical" and says antonyms include "conservative and reactionary". Like I said to Krimel, dictionaries are good if you're completely disoriented and need to grasp the most basic idea. Can we agree that it's foolish to contradict the dictionary when assigning meaning to these political terms and just proceed from the meanings of the words as they are used and have been used by speakers of english? Or would you prefer to go the Orwellian way and declare that progressives are reactionaries? Or would rather keep things as foggy as possible so that conservatism is liberalism, socialism is fascism, war is peace, right is left and down is up. In that case, you will find much comfort in talk radio land. _________________________________________________________________ Lauren found her dream laptop.
