I think I get that.
Thanks,

mark,
for me this problem is cleared up by Ellul's distinction between the
differing realms of Truth and Reality.
If I see a chair, (and at the moment, I do) then that is my observed
reality
put together by my brain from the image available. My written statement
about me seeing a chair is a bunch of words that I put together to
express a
truth.
So... negation is a concept with a truth-value and saying "not-chair"
is
mixing up these two differing realms of reality and truth which leads
to
confusion.
So the chair recognizes your motion to table the chair.

Hi Ron,
What I was trying to impart was that there is more to this
world than opposites. A chair does not have an opposite.
The presence of a chair does, that is, its absence, But the
chair itself does not. Isn't it possible to discern what is real
and what is not by wether it has an opposite? Think about it.
I could have used table instead of chair, but then I guess we
could always table the chair idea.

Mark,
As the post reads, "chair" implies one,
it's is-ness.
to speak of nothing, implies something.
As you state, there is no "non chair"
opposites are implied in concepts.
the concept of a thing, immediately suggests no-thing
but we speak about nothing as if it were a thing.
"chair" is a very general word to denote usefulness
it could be a position one holds on a comittee
or anything used to sit apon
what kind of chair?

Mark,
and about reification of language
when intellectualizing
any one word
immediatly implies it's opposite
it's IS-ness
we understand words in relation to other words

Dwai,
Is this the same thing as the mind being a mirror?

Can the Sun shine on it's own light? The Light is it's nature.
Consciousness is the nature of the subject. What it illuminates is
the object.
