[Platt]
Glad you accept Dyson's claim that environmentalism is a religion
like Barone (previously cited) and others affirm.
[Arlo]
I think there is some validity to the "obsessiveness" Dyson
criticizes. I've told you many times of many years that I am not a
"global warming" alarmist, that I am much more concerned with
immediate environmental degradation and pollution. I've told you I am
opposed to "cap and trade", as this is likely a tool to entrench an
even stronger capitalist oligarchy (capistocracy).
But I also find Dyson's other contentions as valid, and that is that
environmentalist do have the moral high ground, and that as a people
we should be focusing on environmental devastation and social injustice.
"... that ruthless destruction of natural habitats is evil and
careful preservation of birds and butterflies is good."
Amen to that.
As for *your* religion...
"Perhaps the single most profound change in our political culture
over the last 30 years has been the transformation of conservatism
from a political movement, with all the limitations, hedges and
forbearances of politics, into a kind of fundamentalist religious
movement, with the absolute certainty of religious belief." (Neal Gabler)
I suppose if Barone is an "expert", Gabler is as well. Many others
"affirm" this, so it MUST be true...
More on conservative ideology as religion in an upcoming post...
