Hi Steve,
What I am trying to say, and probably not very effectively, is that science has
no more claim on Truth than anything else.  To feel that it does, seems to me
to be acceptance that somehow science has Divine powers.  Such belief needs to
be questioned at a metaphysical level.  I believe this was an "aha" moment for
Phaedrus.   Science defines truth, but this is simply an agreed upon
definition, it creates a method for common understanding.  But it is not the
only method.

In my opinion, of course,

Mark

Mark:The demand for evidence is no greater than in science. We are
subordinate to evidence as created by the old Masters. These Masters made
the rules and we must obey.

Steve: If you want to assert that something is not only scientifically true
but also a spiritual truth, then it seems to me that the standards for
evidence must indeed be higher since the criteria for such a claim to truth
would need to include all the usual criteria for scientific truth plus
additional criteria to address the rules of the Old Masters you mention.

Best,
Steve
