I needed an interpreter. Steve needed an interpreter. We both looked to MD. He
got his answer then. He really respected the thinking on this forum. The high
quality intellection impressed his socially-starved soul. He said he could
barely keep up with the intellectual quality he found on this list. Why he
understood, that Robert Pirsig HIMSELF sometimes communicated with members of
this list, affirming what they thought.
... I wonder what that was? I wonder what response he got?

It was probably me. I vaguely recall feeling sympathy for his case at the time
and even as you tell it again from your perspective I tend to sympathize with
Steve's side.
Sorry.
It's probably because I hate intrusions. Ringing doorbells, phones, barking
dogs and people who stop by without calling. In fact, for years we had
neighbors right across the street. They had no sense of personal boundaries.
Invite themselves to parties, stop by for a chat as we're packing the car for
trip, drop by at all hours, stand too close, talk to loud. They were smart and
talented people but they were just plain rude. Not cause they grew up in a
rough inner city neighborhood or anything, they were just too self-absorbed to
be sensitive to such things. I don't know if that's what's going on with you
and Steve, I just know dropping by unannounced usually doesn't work for me.
