See, I think you don't need a distinction between truth and
justification to acknowledge the fact that truth changes.
All we can have is an endless series of justified beliefs and
that's all truth can mean.

Matt:
Fair enough. I find it easier to state the Truth Fact with
two different words to register it, but you and a handful of
others don't. I don't find that a whole lot of heavy
philosophical weight rides on it, given all around ejections of
Platonism and Cartesianism, though it is amusing to find that
the handful that agrees with me sometimes takes pride in
how their version of the Truth Fact is a realist and
anti-relativistic signal.

Making Rorty, for once, more non-relativistic than thou.
(Though this is merely amusing--I can't usually take
relativism seriously enough long enough to care whether
Rorty is or is not a relativist.)

Steve and I make a distinction between justification

Right, and it is that particular definition of truth that leads
you to abandon truth theories and epistemology.

Matt:
That's funny, did you not notice the Tarskian, semantic
theory of truth (sometimes called the disquotational theory
of truth)?

"'X' is true iff X is true"

The most famous example being

"Snow is white" if and only if snow is white.

Tah-dah!

How about this for an epistemology:

"The justification of claims is the path to knowledge."

Tah-dah!

Now you don't get to say I or Rorty (since Rorty would
subscribe to both of the above) abandon truth theories or
epistemologies. Because I just gave you both.

If you feel cheated, it would be unclear to me why, since
Rorty's never denied semantics as a discipline nor
knowledge-production as a human process. It pays to pay
attention to other people's definitions of terms--your notion
of "epistemology" is clearly wider than Rorty's--which you
bitch about in Rorty, which means you're aware of your own
terminological sleight-of-hand on some level, I would imagine.
