You're missing the point Platt - if they are intelligent and thus have an intellectual level - they would have a social level.

Yeah, although this is a hypothetical (at present), the MOQ is very clear that intellectual patterns emerge from social patterns, they do not appear in isolation outside of this.

If computers ever did become intelligent it would be through a different but analogous path.

But perhaps rather than parallel socio-intellectual evolution, perhaps some manner of networked intelligence will provide the necessary complexity for a new level of evolution; one that "we" won't be a part of outside providing some foundational firmament, like red-blood cells to the mythos.
