And I take their actions as being significant. If you read Royce, and he said "X" understands me better than anyone, wouldn't you be slightly interested in what "X" has to say? No? [John] So Idon't buy dmb or ant being the best interpreters of the MoQ, even if Pirsig says so. [Arlo] So Pirsig doesn't know what he said enough to know who is best representing what he thinks he means? Yowza. Sorry, but I take Pirsig to be an authority on what he wrote. Not that you can't disagree, but disagreement begins with an understanding of what was initially said.... [John] Well, thanks for the compliment, but its obviated by your very assertion. For the designated Pirsig expert dmb does not consider me of any academic value at all. [Arlo] Yeah, I'm not talking about sides in an academic battle, I'm talking about academic activity. Ant, DMB, you, Matt, Steve.... all evidence a high amount of academic discourse. Why belittle that? Look, Platt's initial anti-intellectual yawnfest was about "mind numbing academic precision", something YOU of all people have been involved in, and not only regarding Royce's comparison with Pirsig. Why run from that being an "academic" (gasp! gasp!) activity? [John] He claims that I'm over my head here with all you high-falutin' educated types, so thus either your appeal to authority falls flat or your compliment does. [Arlo] High-falutin'? Who are you, Yosemite John? I make ZERO appeals to authority, I simply say that the discourse you engage in is (again, hold your breath) "academic"? If it isn't, what is it? What would be the impetus to integrate Royce with Pirsig? Do YOU not think what you are doing is "academic"? [John] As for my ironic busting on myself. It's my forte.
