I think Prisig is a much better writer than philosopher. And Zamm was much better written than Lila, or the parts I've read. I do think he raises some very interesting and timely and relevant points about philosophy, or times, the history of ideas.
But I find most of his solutions in the moq simple, naive and sometimes just plain flaky. I don't see a great deal of originality either. Zamm was a beautiful and honest book. It's merit is in the writing, and in his telling his story, of his mental breakdown and how it relates to the great cultural transition he was living through. It connects his own search for meaning, belonging, and other human and existential needs, with the great shift he, and we are living through. He presensts these issues in a readable way and has drawn many into the discussion. And he does have some good philosophical insights too. But largely, I find his solutions hopelessly naive and childish. Jon On Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 10:50 AM, John Carl <[email protected]> wrote: > Pirsig is a GOOD writer.
