Arlo correctly points out the error of limiting the effects of DQ on only a few types of living systems. This universe has an arrow of Quality interpenetrating through it on all levels, so higher Quality static patterns tend to persevere due to their increased autonomy from the limitations of supporting static patterns. It may be just the way things are, with no DQ anywhere, and survival of the survivors isnt nonsense as Pirsig claimed but actually stands for: the survivors tell the story so the storyteller thinks he is the highest product of DQ... no storyteller no DQ... so the existence of DQ wasn't proven in any way, it makes sense, or there could be a simple process at work whereby more autonomy of a static pattern means greater survivability and so things today are more autonomous than things 1 million yrs ago. Robots will continue the trend, this is obvious, the story that machines wont have consciousness is not supported by any research, things actually are starting to point the other way when you see the advances in Global Workspace Theory recently... the point is there are higher Quality Intellectual Patterns coming within 20-30 years that will consider humans a cancer to their ability to grow the highest possible Quality of Intellectual Patterns.
