What is pre-logical, pre-conceptual is not knowledge, because knowledge (knowing) is post-experiential and intellectual.

Right. As soon as Platt makes it "pre-conceptual knowledge", he needs yet another eye outside of THAT to see the value of this new level. And so on and so on and so on, trapped in the very SOM fallacy he thinks he has escaped.

The eye cannot see itself, but the solution is not another eye (creating an endless ladder of "eye" all looking at the previous), it is the Pirsigian understanding that "all this is just an analogy [including this analogy]".

By thinking he can "step outside", he repeats the fundamental SOM mistake, over and over. There is no "God's Eye View", that is SOM precisely, there is only analogy (including analogy itself), the inherent "void" in Magritte's False Mirror, the "incompleteness" of Goedel's mathematics, the "jolt" of the Zen koans.

The pre-conceptual is not "knowledge" but the cutting edge of experience, that which can only ever be pointed to, glanced at, and only ever approached through analogy.

All descriptions of reality are part of the reality they describe. To think otherwise is to perennially reproduce the very SOM error Pirsig sought to address.

This was the very mistake of The Chairman, he thought there was a way to "step outside", Pirsig knew better.
