Hi J-A, It is interesting how language defines the past with the present. It also acts as a funnel to condense the vast into the specific. Let's take "It is language, all the way down". We start with "It". Now this could mean anything or everything. When we add "is" we are beginning to define the "it" with a passive verb. We then move on to "language", and here we have converted "it" into language. But we are not done yet. Further condensation happens with the phrase "all the way down". Of course we could break that up too, but I think you see what I mean. So it is not until the end of the phrase or sentence that we define what we have already begun in the past. We have condensed the "IT" into a single point. It is a refining process by which we define the past with the present.
The same is true with life, if I may be so bold. The past is defined by our present attitude towards it. We can make the past dreary or meaningful. That is the power we have with the present, one of creating the past with the moment. What power indeed if you use it correctly. The future is unknown, but the past is in the moment as we define it. We wouldn't be right here right now if it were not for that past.
