Marsha,

this was your post from which I was prompted towards this question:

"I think Wallace explains in the 2nd part that you will not be asked to
stop
your thoughts, but to become mindful of them, or be able to take a rest
from them now and then. Mindfulness is to be aware of what are thinking
as a participator, not lost to thought where your thoughts are riding
you.
It's quite wonderful. But not to worry, it is not so easy to make it a
new habit.
At least it hasn't been for me. Even so, a few minutes here and there
throughout the day is a treasure."

I asked:
how then do you propose to 'take a rest'?

you replied:
"There is awareness with no thought. That's restful. Or to be aware of
thoughts without attachment to the thoughts is restful."

[Tim]
Now, this distinction may or may not be lost on me, but still, how do
you 'take'? Or, how do you 'become' (as in mindful of them)? Or, how do
you 'make' (as in a new habit)?

Tim
