Hi David
Well, I wasn't really condemning the Katrina victims as much as
drawing comparisions. And no, I am not a Bush fan. Still, don't we
have some responsibility to take care of ourselves?

comparision I was attempting to make.

Again, I am not sure when we suddenly began expecting the government
to take care of us. Some years ago, 1996 if memory serves, my
community was flooded by a so-called 100 year flood. It rained like it
would never stop. Then the water rose so fast that we barely had time
to grab a few clothes and get out... it just started bubbling up out
of the ground. It was the damnest thing I've ever seen.

We lost everything.

The government didn't come to our rescue. Oh sure, they declared it a
disaster area so low-cost federal loans were made available to those
who like to jump through hoops. But that was it. It was up to us to go
back in and clean up 2 feet of mud from our living rooms and bedrooms,
tear out all the drywall and floors, and start over fresh. It took a
while but we did it.

I guess I don't understand this need to be taken care of. Maybe I've
been taking care of myself too long.
