Isn't this a bit overblown, though? The alternative - low-efficiency economies (which is what avoiding the use of that wholly fictitious machine would mean) - don’t make for good living. Better that the worker be taught that the global economy is, or could be, full of alternatives and no one is, or should be, locked into a job. The days of the golden watch are long over (and weren't often like that anyway).
