Well, again, I think the high/low only comes from "to other patterns". No pattern in isolation (if that's possible) has "low value", the very fact that it is a stable pattern of activity indicates it has value, otherwise it would not persist.

The rays of the sun, for example, have high or low value only in contrast/context to other patterns, in and of themselves they are stable inorganic patterns of value.
