Mark to David:

I believe everybody has always been able to say whether something is better
than something else that
is not new. What may be new (at least from the last two centuries) is the point
that betterness and morality (and values) are part of the universe as a whole,
and not simply some subjective thing that we come up with.

Andre:
I have taken this last paragraph from a long post but it shows exactly where
you're differ with regards to the MOQ Mark or where your misunderstanding lies
(as David and dmb have tried to point out). Judgements about betternes is not
new you say, and that is correct. Value judgements have been part of the
evolutionary process since time immemorial. The point the MOQ makes however is
NOT that 'betterness and morality (and values) are part of the universe as a
whole'. No, the point Phaedrus makes is that the world is composed of nothing
but moral value. Morality is not part of anything, morality manifests as static
patterns of value. (see LILA chapter 8)

Your value judgement is an intellectual pattern that can too easily be fitted
into a SOM. A value is not. imho.
