This has nothing to do with following dogma. It has everything to do with
reaching a better understanding of Pirsig's MoQ and finding out/realizing,
again and again why the MoQ is such a high quality static intellectual pattern
of value.

[Arlo]
The primary error made is conflating Pirsig's Metaphysics of Quality with
Quality; the explanation with the (analagously) explained. You hear this when
verbs are associated with "the MOQ" (e.g., "The MOQ creates...") or directly
when experience is tied to "the MOQ" (e.g., "We experience the MOQ..."). Once
this primary conflation is made, of course Ant or you or me or anyone else
can't possibly understand "the MOQ" better than anyone else.

This is a bizarre anti-authoritarian stance that has a base of
anti-intellectualism (why Ant is so maligned for being part of the dogmatic and
evil Academy, why his PhD is evidence not of understanding but of idolatry and
ignorance) that you simply don't see in any other philosophical discourse (at
least none I have even participated, even peripherally) within. I could not
imagine going into a Peirce forum to tell all the Peirce scholars that they
were dogmatic fools.

Of course, if you remove the conflation this goes away. Of course our
experiences of Quality will vary, and maybe someone will come along with a
better way of explaining experience. This was the place Pirsig's ideas were
born, as a "better" explanation of Quality than the historical legacy evidenced
in western thought.

I remain convinced the leading problem for them is the term "The MOQ", and I
suggest that substituting "Pirsig's ideas" into their posts in place of this
term will make evident this conflation error. Evolution in thought will occur
(as it always has historically) when people say "Pirsig was wrong about this,
here is a better way" or even "Pirsig did not consider X theory, here is where
and how X theory can illuminate or extend Pirsig's ideas", not in "The MOQ says
this despite what Pirsig says".
