...and the choice has consequences-

[Joe]
Evolution! Quality determines the choosing!

[Arlo]
I've never liked this wording. All to often it implies an elimination of
agency. I think it is more accurate to say Quality is akin to a field of
probability, where 'what is better' is often a complex evaluation that hinges
on a trajectory of simultaneous phylogenetic, ontogenetic, historical-cultural
and microgenetic processes.

[Joe]
Can the indefinable being whimsical choose!

[Arlo]
There is anthropomorphic implications here I'd say are better avoided. Plus I'm
not even sure what you mean by 'whimsical', as that's an post-evaluation
assessment, often from an 'objective' viewpoint (like Pirsig's reaction to the
word 'just').

[Joe]
Maybe an accident or maybe the indefinable is self aware.

[Arlo]
Does self-awareness imply self-definition (what is 'me' and what is not 'me')?
Does it create a paradox to imply that the undefined is defined to itself? Does
this imply that our inability to define Quality is not based on an inherent
undefinedness but on some perceptual inferiority within our own selves?

[Joe]
Beautiful Existence leads to a nightmare!

[Arlo]
I can rarely understand what you are trying to say, Joe, but this reminded me
of the words on one of my favorite paintings.

El sueño de la razón produce monstruos.
The sleep of reason produces monsters.
