[Ron responds]
It has been characterized as the expression of value, creativity,
interpretation and inspiration, beauty and taste , critical reflection
broadening human nature and aiding in bringing us back to what is essential
about humanity. The act of recognizing high quality
patterns of value. Skill arising from the exercise of intuitive faculties,
ie:skill in conducting any human activity.

Excellence .

Killing excellence, art and creativity does not seem to be very moral to me.

"The priest presents for consideration a compound of inherited forms [static
patterns] with the expectation (or, at times, even requirement) that one should
interpret and experience them in a certain authorized way, whereas the artist
first has an experience [DQ] of his own, which he then seeks to interpret and
communicate through effective forms [static patterns]. Not the forms first and
then the experience, but the experience first, and then the forms." -- Joseph
Campbell, “Mythological Themes in Creative Literature and Art,” The Mythic
Dimension, p. 186

..
What is being discussed and argued over is the meaning of the "hero's journey"
I contend that the full meaning of the hero's journey lies in the
return from the dynamic unknown with a "boon" (as Joe Campbell uses)
to society. To be the artist and effectivly comunicate experience.

While it seems to me that the so-called "mystics" maintain that what the Zen
would call
180 degree enlightenment is the more moral aim . They rest on the immediate
now of no mind at their journey's end.

I see that as retarding and arresting human growth. Not to mention it does
not sustain social patterns while following DQ.

This is the big conflict and I do believe Horse has said it best.
