Hi, everyone--
Please excuse the relative ignorance of this post, as I just joined in last
evening.

I just read Fred's post of his mystical experience, and must confirm his
experience. I think we can have experiences (moments of epiphany) more often
than we'd sometimes open ourselves to believe. [Maybe part of it is the
receptive frame of mind in which we find ourselves once we hit forty?]

I am presently coming to the final days of my course (I teach college at a
small private university whose focus is business) in which I use Pirsig's
book as a method to help pry open the cemented doors of perception in some
of my students. It's been a hard term, filled with the sort of steep apathy
Pirsig encountered ("teaching dull conformity to hateful students. . . .");
maybe it's just Spring term-itis?

In any event, I think one of my students had a smaller-scale epiphany one
day when it all came together. That alone made the struggle worthwhile.
Anyway, thanks for sharing, Fred. I look forward to joining this spirited
group.

Jeff
