Thanks for responding to my e-mail. You were the only one to respond. Here I
thought I was opening up and sharing a much guarded inner secret, that I have
kept to myself for years. I had anticipated at least a deluge of synical
responses, but the lack of any responses was unexpected. Oh well, I guess in
our times, a mystical conversation with God doesn't make the cut. Maybe if
Elvis has contacted me, I'd of gotten more feed back.
I think it's great that you use Pirsig in your teaching methods. Keep it up.
Even if you can influence just one person, it'll be worth it.
Even if Castenada was a con man, so what. It's what you get out of the
writing, and apparently, he influenced a lot of people into considering other
aspects of reality other than the western objective materialism that we're
all taught as kids. I tried his dream technique one night. I always liked
flying dreams, so after reading some of Castenada's writing, I programed
myself to fly in my dream that night. And it worked. In the middle of my
dream, I remebered that I was suppose to fly, and I took off like a bird. It
was one of the best dreams I've had. I actually even felt a little conscious
while flying. It seemed kinda real, and was a lot of fun.
Who knows what influenced him to write his books. Maybe he was a con man
being used by a higher source, he didn't even realize. Someone asked Picasso
what one of his paintings meant. He said that if he knew that, he'd of been a
writer. Maybe if Castenada knew what he was really writing about, he'd of
been a mystic.
