ROGER RESPONDS TO PLATT"S QUESTIONS

Q:
If there are many truths, why isn’t Leuchter’s as good as anyone’s?

ROG:
Many truths does not imply that every truth is as good as any other. It
means that truth is a term applied to concepts of reality, not to reality
itself, which is not true or false...it just IS. As reality is essentially
event based, there are myriads of ways that the quality and truth of an
intellectual pattern derived from experience can be formulated. The test of
intellectual patterns is spelled out at the end of Ch29. Consistency with
other hi-value patterns is one such measure, as is logic, elegance,
simplicity and conclusiveness. The final arbiter is of course "Direct
Everyday Experience."

Q
Was the Canadian court, representing social values, acting morally when it
threw out his report?

ROG:
Seems like it was acting socially moral. Intellectually, the report should
have been evaluated empirically and objectively. If it passed the tests of
accuracy, it certainly should not be thrown out. Regardless, it should not
be supressed.

Q:
How do MoQ principles prevent one from “turning his mind’s eye away from
reality to the “truth” one would prefer to see?”

ROG:
Be brave and open minded enough to evaluate other views. Eventually, some
static filters are a practical necessity, just to allow focus on higher
quality. The dynamic /static conflict.

In my job, one of my bosses shared a great way to view other
opinions....especially when contradictory to my own beliefs or seemingly
absurd. He said to ask yourself a question..... "How could a reasonably
educated adult come to that conclusion?" This puts an active burden on the
listener to find the value in every view.

Q:
Is the author correct in calling Leuchter a “metaphor for us all in this
century
in which much evil has been committed and defended by people who
believed they were doing good?”

ROG:
It is a view. Seems to have some quality to it as well. It makes me think
and allows me to extend the concept to other situations.

Roger Dean Parker
