Hi Dave, Diana and Roger
As I said, my original intention was to cull the very best posts from over a
much broader section of the archives, but when I began encountering the same
questions over and over again it seemed the best course to take was to go
back and explore the first asking in greater detail. In reading the
archives, one will notice that in May, 1998 the discussion becomes
moderated. Before that time a broader range of topics was covered, so I
decided to concentrate on just the first six months, beginning at the
beginning and ending when the discussions became moderated.
I have left out some great posts and even whole discussions due to size
constraints, mostly. It is already a 450 page book. I just cannot include
everything. In deciding which posts to use and which to leave out, I would
just chose one I liked and try to see where fit best. Some posts were
unclear at the beginning and were left out for that reason, but as time went
by I became very familiar with the archives and just knew where each
belonged. Unfortunately some of the early work is still there and needs
correcting but I am working on it.
I have used the Chicago Manual of Style to edit LC, which I would hope will
lend an air of professionalism to the finished book. I considered having it
professionally edited but as the money can go to other uses in my life right
now that is impossible. LC isn't about money anyway. Believe me, I would
love to write a bestseller and sail around the world but LC is not a
bestseller. It is just a bunch of people talking about Quality and what it
means to them.
What I do think extremely cool is Robert Pirsig's interest in the work. What
does that mean to all the contributors? (if you don't mind me asking.) Would
anyone like to see Robert Pirsig's responses to some of the questions raised
in LC? I know I would.
