I do not believe adolescents of tribes past carried medicine wheels to speed or enhance their visions. I don't believe Mandelbaum or Dussenberry refer to the medicine wheel. Frankly the whole idea of the wheel seems a modern attempt of capitalize on New Age interest in mandalas.
