No. According to geologists, the earth has gone through many periods of
heating and cooling. You need only examine the rocks of New England to
be convinced that much of what is now enjoyed as habitat by millions of
people was once covered with ice. It's eventual melting and retreat to
the Arctic was due to natural, not human, causes. In cases where human
activity has made human life uncomfortable and sometimes harmful, such as
dumping human waste and garbage into the streets, it has been technology that
has corrected the situation. A modern example is the catalytic converter used
to reduce toxic emissions from gasoline engine exhaust systems. So I do not
ascribe to the doom sayers and scare mongers who say the apocalypse is about to
punish all us sinners, whether they be from the religious right or the Godless
left.
