[Case] As I said, "I understand." > [Case] > My guess is that to the grunt wearing a uniform and carrying a gun the > distinction means little. Our track record in such matters has not been > good in recent years. [Platt} So you would rather rely on information from Iran? [Case] I live in a state where open government is the rule. I would like to see this extended to the national level. In fact I believe the Freedom of Information Act was inspired by Florida law. I am horrified that my own national government can not be trusted. But at this point I would say the Iranians and the Bush administration are pretty close to equal in the credibility department. > [Platt] > Again, I guess you see no difference between the American and European > economies in terms of percentage of growth. But as a worker bee, from what I hear, they have it a > whole lot better in terms of vacations, time off, benefits, healthcare and > on and on. [Platt] So, why not renounce the U.S. and apply for citizenship in France? Otherwise, I take your appraisal of Europe with a a grain of salt. [Case] There are people in this forum from all over the world that can speak better to the quality of life elsewhere than I can. I have no travel plans outside of the U.S. anytime soon but at least I get to go to France. You wanted to ship Arlo to Borneo or Wyoming. I would take Paris over either. I hear the art there is beautiful. > [Platt] > Communists and fascists are both totalitarian systems. Again, no > difference between them and us in regards to the use of force? > > [Case] > I am not the one whining about IRS agents with guns you are. [Platt] So you don't see a difference, still? [Case] It seems to me that one of the things repressive governments do is inspire fear. They brand some group threatening and classify them as subhuman. They make frequent reference to lofty ideals that must be upheld through force. To the extent that I see this happening in my homeland I am saddened. I do not equate this with taxation in the slightest. In fact typically citizens must be convinced to increase taxes on themselves in this country. We must approve school bonds and local taxes to pay for services and infrastructure. No group of humans has ever lived in this planet and been free of social obligations. Taxation was an early form of this and no civilization has existed without it. No one who has ever paid taxes truly enjoys the experience but I think ours is a much fairer system than many. > [Platt] > Where did I ever say I love the Patriot Act and hate the ACLU? Are > you dreaming again at your junior high classroom desk? > > [Case] > So you do not support the "Patriot" Act and you do support the ACLU? If so > I apologize profusely. [Platt] I won't swallow your bait. Have you stopped beating your wife? [Case] First you climb on your high horse and then claim a simple question is "bait"? Who has regressed to junior high here? So do you actually have an ACLU card? moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
