[Arlo] If Quality is not betterness, but some "amoral, valueless force", explain to me how the MOQ differs from cold science on one end, or solipsism on the other?
[Ron] MOQ differs from cold science by pragmatically taking all available data and expierience into account and not subjecting reality to true/false either or (good/bad) logic. I know Pirsig states that it is a moral universe and things work toward betterness via the quotes and I guess I'm avoiding the Pragmatic statement that betterness is what works but that's how I see it mostly. "probability itself may be expressed as value, so that "a static pattern of inorganic values," which is a definition the Metaphysics of Quality gives to "substance," is the same as "a pattern of probabilities," which is a definition quantum theory gives to substance. If the atomic world is composed of probability waves and if probability is equal to value then it follows logically that the atomic world is composed of value." -from subjects objects -Pirsig Some feel that if you hold the notion that mankind has no special place in the universe and reality has no meaning other than what we give it, that you profess a sad state of existence. I feel it makes the phenomena we experience all the more special. MOQ really does not offer anything new other than giving us a better perspective of our SOM Tendancies and perception, some folks talk here like you can just drop them, I don't believe we can, we are immersed in SOM it's how we percieve reality I think it's a bit more hard wired into Our culture than what is commonly realized. moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/ moq_discuss mailing list Listinfo, Unsubscribing etc. http://lists.moqtalk.org/listinfo.cgi/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org Archives: http://lists.moqtalk.org/pipermail/moq_discuss-moqtalk.org/ http://moq.org.uk/pipermail/moq_discuss_archive/
