[Micah] Compromise doesn't exist. Neither does "collective Intelligence".
[Steve] Hypothetical Situation A: 1) Four neighbors each want a lawn mower for themselves to be used one hour per weekend only for purposes of mowing the lawn. 2) Each neighbor has $100 in disposable income. 3) Lawn mowers cost $400 each. 4) Since no one has $400, no one buys a lawn mower. Hypothetical Situation B: 1) Four neighbors each want a lawn mower for themselves to be used one hour per weekend only for purposes of mowing the lawn. 2) Each neighbor has $100 in disposable income. 3) Lawn mowers cost $400 each. 4) Since they have a combined $400, they pool their money and buy a lawn mower for all of them to use. Each agrees to mow his lawn during a different hour than the other neighbors. This sure looks like a compromise to me. Ignore the fact that the numbers are probably bad estimates.
