[Ron]
I thought this snip from "Emergent properties & processes" sounded a
lot like Pirsigs description of the four levels.

[Arlo]
I've long argued that the MOQ is an emergentist metaphysics.

[Ron]
Has anyone else connected/compared Emergence with MOQ? I do know
there are those who object to the idea, I find it interesting though
that Pirsigs levels can be
accepted although the idea of emergence, particularly as it applies
to consciousness is in hot debate.

[Arlo]
At the risk of excluding anyone, Ian, Krimel and myself have for
quite a while supported (more or less) the emergentist paradigm in
the MOQ. Platt, of course, relies on his "oops" soundbite in an
attempt to ridicule the idea, but that mischaracterization has been
addressed numerous times, most eloquently and most frequently by Krimel.

If you haven't read it, the book "Emergence: The Connected Lives of
Ants, Brains, Cities, and Software" by Steven Johnson is very
MOQ-compatible (not to mention enlightening in its own regard).
