David,
An interesting theory in Quantum physics posits that our minds perceive
all possible universes
as one reality until we focus on one thing and then "localize" our
perception to that one universal
reality or "collapse" on one "probabitity wave". which would explain the
observer effect and why
electrons seem to vibrate frequency in and out of experienced reality.
An interesting theory
for sure. It also disolves an "either/or" reality and allows for the
awareness of infinite
value potentials. a thing can be both there and not there...a concept
which is hard to wrap
the mind around. Or, elctrons could be constantly doing a "rob peter to
pay paul" movement with
losing and gaining electrons with the surrounding environment of free
particles making them appear
to be popping in and out of reality, but that does nothing to explain
any of the paradoxes
of observer effect and the like. either way, the conclusion is that our
minds play a large role
in what we experience and science is not particularly sure how that role
is played yet.

Subject: Re: [MD] Aristotle & DQ

Hi folks

Take a look at Aristotle on Wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aristotle#Substance.2C_potentiality_and_act
uality

especially the bit on:

Substance, potentiality and actuality

I see Aristotle, like me, and so should Pirsig I'd suggest, sees
potential as inseparable from 'dynamei'. Also note that where Wiki
translates the Greek used by Aristotle as 'matter', others think that
what Aristotle meant is more like what we mean by 'energy', i.e. pure
potential. What could be more dynamic?

So what is the ontological status of the potential & possible? Try Wiki
on 'modal realism' for a wild and very hard to refute option.

Any thoughts? Other than this makes your brain hurt?

David M
