Well, depth of field depends only on the size of the aperture you are
using. The more you close the diafragm, the greater will be the depth of
field. Howeve, this means it will need to remain opened longer, so might
need to have it mounted in a fized support (Copy stand, tripod) to
avoid shaking. I work with small skulls and a good reflex with a good
macro lens has worked fine with me (a 10-12 mega pixel image of a 1 cm
skull is way biger than any computer screen we use). I have been using
the Benbo Mini trekket tripod that can be easily carried along when
visiting museums, and can be set up as a copy stand in case the museum
doesn´t have one to lend you. Feel free to contact me if you need any

Dear morphometricians,
I am currently seeking for a portable imaging device able to take
high-quality pictures of objects as small as the skull of mouse or rat.
(I need a camera, that could be carried between museum collections.) I
have some standard reflex digital camera, but it hasn't sufficient
depth
of field. Do you have any experience with such type of device? What
technical parameters are important for a camera to have high resolution
as well as reasonable depth of field?
