Does anybody have any recommendations of low level guided reading books for
students in fifth grade? My teachers are saying that the level M and level N
books are too babyish for the kids to be reading in grade 5. They are looking
for high interest books for low level students. Any publishers or titles would
be greatly appreciated.

Also, I'm interested in some opinions. How long does it take to do a high
quality guided reading lesson for students in grades 3-5? Within a reading
workshop block, can a teacher really do 2 quality guided reading groups in 40
minutes with all of its components? (intro, reading/teacher guidance and
assessment, discussion/teaching point/word work) If so, what happens to the
conferencing time that should be happening during independent reading?

I appreciate any input and opinions you can provide!
