I have always told my students that I consider my read aloud time as
sacred. I won't let anyone else read. Once I give a books' characters a
voice, I don't let any else touch it. I won't even let subs read to the
kids. One sub tried. The kids made me read the section to me again because
the sub didn't read like I did. She didn't have any feeling, and it was
boring. It's my job to show them how exciting reading should be. That sub
only cemented my argument.

My kids know, too, that I will ignore any interruptions including the
principal, and other teachers. Usually when I keep reading and don't stop
to acknowledge them, the adults get the hint. My principal will just grab a
chair and sit and listen. Most teachers back out quietly. One didn't and
actually yelled out, "Excuse me!" Finally, one of my kids got up and went
to her and explained that I would yell at her if she interrupted. The child
handed her a message pad. I concerned me that any professional still
believes that they are more important than the kids.

Laugh when you can, apologize when you should, let go of what you can't
change, kiss slowly, play hard, forgive quickly, take chances, give
everything, have no regrets.. Life's too short to be anything but happy.
