Hi Bahiyh,
Our school is located in a rural area, and many kids never get to leave the
county. We are required to take at least one field trip per month. This gives
them lots of hands on experience. In lieu of a field trip, we can have guest
speakers or presenters come in. (Museums here have outreach programs and charge
a small fee. They bring everything - even critters!)

Of course, the field trips are tied to our curriculum. I always have
something for them to notice and report back to the class about. It may be a
scavenger hunt, it may just be a short list of questions. I always try to tie a
book to the field trip, as well. I teach fourth grade, and have found that I
can use both picture books and novels to do this, in additon to nonfiction and
informational texts. I try to integrate everything as much as possible, and
that helps, too.
