I bought, and have been skimming (haven't read it too deeply yet), Second Grade Writers, by Stephanie Parsons (she wrote First Grade Writers, too). It's not written in the same way as Mosaic, but each chapter has suggestions for doing the writing and notetaking that you're going to be asking the kids to do. These are both companion texts for the Units of Study writing workshop kit. It's very good!! I haven't seen a text like the one you describe. I'd be interested in finding out if there is one, as writing narrative isn't a strength of mine.
