One of our summer school teachers read Hatchet with his children last year, and they loved it! I talked to one of the students lately, and she's now reading Brian's Winter on her own. There's also a video that is very true to the book Hatchet to show, but don't get the cartoon version video -- it doesn't hold the attention. It's just a picture on the screen and then someone reading a chapter. Then another picture and a chapter narration.
