Your welcome, Elisa. You most likely can get it from a local university
(wherever you do research). Just put the title in the search bar. Your
university can probably get a copy sent to you to borrow for a few weeks. Or
just call and talk to the research assistant. They have archives to access
titles of dissertations, one data bank being, UMI Dissertation Services. They
have a website too www.il.proquest.com<http://www.il.proquest.com/>. My UMI
number is 3140432. I know they will send you a copy but I think it would cost
you.

I observed 3 teachers in two states and three districts. I coded every
instructional action they used when they did guided reading - it was amazing
when the bar graphs were all done because you could literally lay one overhead
(with bar graph on them) on top of one another and they would have very similar
in their teaching (or guiding) behaviors. The bar graphs for each teacher
(four lessons each) were in consensus. The areas of behaviors were feedback
(six kinds), modeling, prompting, questioning, and procedural information.
There is a summary of the research on small group approaches and what is clear
is that success with ANY small group approach has to do with the teacher's
small group dynamics. I only looked at the guiding behaviors or instructional
actions they used.

Are you a coach? You contribute quite a lot and meaningfully. Do you do staff
development as well as teach? JB

  Hi Janine,
I agree with much of what you said here. Thanks for sharing it. This may
have already been asked but I was wondering how to access your dissertation.
It sounds like one I would benefit from reading.
  Thank you,
  Elisa
