As I understand it, and as it is implemented in my building, the interventions must be research based, but that does not mean they must be a purchased program. Balanced literacy is research based, as is many phonics programs. The Florida Center for Reading Research has many on-line, research based interventions that are available, free, and do not require the program be used for the entire school. The whole point of RTI is to figure out what each student needs and meet that need - and the hope is that many of these students will have their needs met before their deficiencies become disabilities, thus lessening the number of students who are placed in SPED. >From my experience, I am finding that the pyramid is pretty accurate when it >comes to comprehension.
