I absolutely love Joanne Hindley's In the Company of Children. She describes a
year's worth of literacy instruction in her third grade classroom. Joanne
Hindley is one of the teachers who founded the Manhattan New School in New York
along with such greats as Lucy Calkins, Shelley Harwayne and Sharon Taberski.
They know their stuff!

I have been teaching third grade for 10 years and just recently re-read her
book. It was published in 1997, but the ideas are not outdated. I wish she'd
write another book.

Subject: [MOSAIC] 3rd grade...new teacher

I just found out today that I've got my first classroom teaching job in 4 years
teaching 3rd grade! Now the panic is setting in.  I have not previously set up
a
balanced literacy classroom model.  Any recommendations???How about titles for
guided reading???

Thx,

Babs
