Wow, thanks for all the help! I wish I had asked this question earlier this year. The "formal" assessments I have used are the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment books because at our school, we are required to give an assessment with a grade level book every quarter. This particular student is big into Accelerated Reader (I don't require it but let the kids take tests as they want), and her scores are all over the place and don't seem to correlate at all to the book level.
I would definitely like to visit with her teacher for next year though and pass on some of this info.
