"What if your main focus was that reading IS thinking?" Do you think you would have to tell a reader to think about what they are reading? That's all they talk about...what they are reading and what they are thinking about it. It's the non-readers that we have to get hooked. Some of the books I get from our reading department I want to throw in the trash. I know there is this push to have kids in short text, but much of it is so boring and there is nothing to talk about in the "new" short texts we have purchased. After the read aloud and mini-lesson, I say let them sink their teeth into a great book short or not!
